Sultanpur - Feb 2022

Long before Gurgaon became the crowded urban jungle it is today its wetlands were a hub to migratory birds for ages. Sultanpur, just a 30km ride from Gurgaon is the perfect reminder for this. Even today, driven by instincts, birds from colder climes flock to the lake here and to the wetlands that surround this place. But the city and its brutalist high-rises are marching towards these sanctuaries from all sides. On my third visit to this place in the last five years I can already tell how close the concrete structures have got to the lake. I keep hoping that we don't destroy this magical habitat but I know its end is nearly inevitable. For today, though, I enjoy my time with the visitors.
