Kaziranga

At Kaziranga, the Asian One-horned Rhino is the absolute show stealer. In the safaris that take us in search of the rhinos, though, there's plenty of opportunity to see birds that are unique to the plains and the wetlands of the northeast. This trip included a bunch of lifers for me.

Lifers

Swamp Francolin (Ortygornis gularis)

My first ever sighting of Swamp Francolins was under the thick elephant grass that covers most of Kaziranga.

Grey-headed Lapwing (Vanellus cinereus)

White-throated or Hodgson's Bushchat (Saxicola insignis)

Pallas's Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus leucoryphus)

Tree Pipit (Anthus trivialis)

Others...

Indian Roller (Coracias benghalensis)

Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela)

Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus caeruleus)

Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis)

Eurasian Teal (Anas crecca)
