Hampi / Daroji - Feb 2017

The area around Hampi may look barren but it is deceptively rich in fauna. The Daroji sanctuary was intended to protect the sloth bear populations, but a lot of bird species are benefiting from the reduced human activity.

Indian Eagle-owl (Bubo bengalensis)

This handsome Eagle-owl was part of a family residing on the sides of one of the canals flowing from the Tungabhadra dam near Hampi.

Painted Spurfowl (Galloperdix lunulata)

...and the female.

Jungle Bush Quail (Perdicula asiatica)

Grey Francolin (Francolinus pondicerianus)

Painted Sandgrouse (Pterocles indicus)
