Galibore - 2020

We were stepping out as a family for the first time since the pandemic forced us all indoors, and the destination had to be my Soul Place.

The Lifer!

Verditer Flycatcher (Eumyias thalassinus)

Thus far, I had seen this bird in pictures only, and its striking blue colour had made me long to see it in real life. Finally got the chance in Galibore.

Others...

Tickell's Blue Flycatcher (Cyornis tickelliae)

Judging by its relatively large size I'm guessing this is a female ready to lay eggs.

Blue-bearded Bee-eater (Nyctyornis athertoni)

Brown-hawk Owl (Ninox scutulata)

That glare tells you this owl is not much of a morning person.

Common Hoopoe (Upapa epops)

This hoopoe flew from the path just as I was driving out of the Galibore camp, and sat on a fallen bark waiting for me to pass quickly so that it could resume foraging on the trail.

Common Iora (Aegithina tiphia)

This iora was engrossed picking out bugs from inside the folds of a withered leaf.

Lesser Fishing Eagle (Ichthyophaga humilis)

We see these eagles every time we visit Galibore. This magnificent individual had just returned wet, presumably from a very recent fishing sortie, and was drying its feathers on a dry branch by the river bank.

Painted Sandgrouse (Pterocles indicus)

Sandgrouses have a knack of finding a stone that matches their plumage and then blending into the background. We found innumerable pairs all over the park, and most times we'd realise they were there only when they took flight.

Indian Robin (Saxicoloides fulicatus)

White-bellied Drongo (Dicrurus caerulescens)

Indian Bushlark (Mirafra erythroptera)
